Drug Demand Reduction & Healthy Living
Young Motivators teaches youth drug-free is the way to be!
Drug Demand Reduction (DDR)
Illicit drug use is prevalent and even glamorized in American culture. The real-life results of drug use are anything but glamorous. Individual drug users have higher rates of poverty and illness throughout their lifetimes. Communities plagued by drug use experience more property and violent crime that areas with lower rates of illegal drug use. Young Motivators teaches young people not only the consequences of drug use, but also the benefits of living a drug-free life.
Supply & Demand: Familiar law enforcement activities work to reduce the supply of illegal drugs. In contrast, Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) refers to efforts aimed at reducing public desire for illegal and illicit drugs. Reducing public desire for drugs involves teaching potential harms, and by instruction in moral values, creating a moral conflict in the mind of youth who may be considering experimenting with drug use.
Red Ribbon Week is an annual National Family Partnership campaign to promote Drug Demand Reduction. The Red Ribbon traces its origins to 1985, when Drug Enforcement Administration agent, Enrique Camarena, was killed during his fight against illegal drugs. NCF Young Motivators works with National Familly Partnership year round, with a special focus on Red Ribbon Week in October. Young Motivators receive training and then present information to their peers in schools, churches, and special events. Drug education and resistance materials and lesson plans are generously provided by National Family Partnership.
